Everybody has that one TV series, or movie, or book, or even video game, that they love half to death. Some people even have more than one (me, for instance). And I’m sure all of us have had those ideas pop into our head—those brilliant, “what if?” ideas. “What if Jack Sparrow met a rich girl with an attitude who wants to be a pirate?” Or maybe, “What if a new transfer student from America came to Hogwarts and fell for Harry?” Or perhaps, “What if Voldemort had a daughter?” Before you start writing—stop. Mary-Sueism: Part OneMary-Sue comes in many disguises. A perky, bright girl with golden-blonde hair, sapphire blue eyes, and curves in all the right places. A dark, angsty girl with black hair, violet eyes that reflect hidden sorrows, and who is thin enough to be anorexic. A smart, seemingly unpopular girl with brown hair and deep brown eyes, who wears thick black glasses to hide her beauty. We’ve seen it all, folks. We’ve seen it all. Below is a list of all the types of Mary-Sues I’ve seen. If your character fits any of these descriptions... then get thee to a litmus test as soon as possible.

Part 3: Personality
This may seem like a minor detail, I hear a lot of people say, “Oh, I just got to finish their design, and then I’ll work out their personality kinks” that is the wrong way to approach this subject. Your character should be all about their personality, and their design should compliment that, NOT the other way around. If that’s the way you design your character, you may end up with a very shallow “looks-only” based character, which is definitely not what you want, now is it? Part 1: Appearance
A key factor in your character’s design is the appearance, it affects how they’re treated, and generally thought of.
The appearance should be well thought out, and should reflect your character, and not your personal tastes. I hear many people say, “She/He looks like this because I saw a movie with this one character that was really cool”, please, don’t ever do this.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Protectors-of-Canon Group. If you are tired of horrible, cliche Mary-Sues dominating your favorite fandom, then this is the place for you. Here, we will do character analyzation, Anti-Sue art, Anti-Sue writing (this does NOT include MSTs), and if you happen to have a story that you are proud of and wish to show off here, you can do that as well.
